Run Claude Code, Codex and Gemini CLI on Free Models (One Prompt)
FreeLLMAPI is a free, open-source router that stacks the free tiers from 34 AI providers behind one address. Point your coding agent at it and it runs on free models. Paste the prompt below into your agent and it does the install for you.
What it does
FreeLLMAPI runs on your own computer. You add free API keys from providers like Google, Groq, Cerebras and OpenRouter. It puts all of them behind one address.
Now Claude Code, Codex or Gemini CLI can run on that address. Same tool, same commands. The model answering is whichever free one is available right now.
The project counts 34 free providers and about 7.4 billion free tokens a month between them.
The one prompt
Open Claude Code, Codex or Gemini CLI and paste this. Boom. Your agent installs the router, connects itself and proves it works.
You get a separate free command, like claude-free. Your normal setup stays exactly how it was.
Install FreeLLMAPI on this computer and get it running for me. It's a free, open-source router that lets coding agents like you run on free AI models: https://github.com/tashfeenahmed/freellmapi
1. Read the repo's README and install guide. Install it the best way for my system and start it.
2. Open the dashboard at http://localhost:3001 and walk me through adding my free provider keys. I'll paste keys into the dashboard myself, never into this chat.
3. Connect it to the coding agents I have installed (Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI) the way the repo's docs say. Give me a separate free command for each one, like claude-free, so my normal setup stays exactly how it is.
4. Send one test request through it and show me which free model answered.
5. Tell me what you installed, what you changed and how to undo it.The one part you do
Your agent opens the dashboard for you. All you need to do is add your free keys on the Keys page. Each one is a free account. Start with these four:
More keys means more free capacity. Then tell your agent you're done and it finishes the setup.
Ground rules
These are free tiers. The strongest free models have the smallest daily limits, so answers get weaker later in the day and reset at midnight UTC.
- One account per provider. Don't share your endpoint and don't resell it.
- Keep it on your own machine. Don't open it to the internet.
- It's for personal projects. Swap in a paid API before you launch a real product.
