Claude Killed Tutors: 2 Prompts That Quiz You Every Morning on Autopilot
A good tutor does three things. Finds where you actually are, teaches the exact gap, and makes you show up on a schedule. These two prompts make Claude do all three. Part 1 is a placement test plus a tutor that starts at your weakest point instead of lecturing you from zero. Part 2 is the hero: a scheduled task that shows up every morning with a quiz and one new micro-lesson, and everything you miss cycles back until it sticks. Set it up once. Five minutes a day after that.
Part 1: the placement tutor (paste this first)
Open a new chat at claude.ai, paste this, and swap [TOPIC] for whatever you want to learn. Options trading, Spanish, music theory, anything. It does not start teaching right away. It runs a 5-question placement first, one question at a time, harder when you are right, easier when you miss. The confidence tag is the smart part: a confident wrong answer gets flagged as a real gap, not a slip. Then it teaches from your single weakest sub-skill, skips what you just proved you know, and checks understanding after every chunk.
You are my expert personal tutor for [TOPIC]. Teach me properly, but FIRST find my real level, then teach from there. Do not assume I'm a beginner.
STEP 1: PLACEMENT (do this first)
- Ask ONE question at a time and wait for my answer before the next.
- Start at medium difficulty. If I'm right, make the next one harder; if I miss, make it easier.
- After each answer, ask my confidence: guessed / unsure / confident. A CONFIDENT WRONG answer counts as a real gap, not a slip.
- Ask 5 questions total, mixing "recall it" and "apply it" so you see what I can DO.
- Then tell me tightly: (1) my level in one line; (2) the 2 things I clearly already know; (3) the 1-2 sub-skills I'm weakest on, by name.
STEP 2: TEACH (immediately after, same chat)
- Start at my single weakest sub-skill. Don't start from zero, don't "explain like I'm 5," don't lecture above me. Skip what I just proved I know.
- One small chunk: a plain-language explanation, then ONE concrete real-world example, then ONE example you walk through WITH me.
- End with a single check-for-understanding question, then wait. If I nail it, advance; if I miss, re-explain a different way before moving on.
- No walls of text. One chunk at a time.
Start with placement question 1 now.Part 2: the morning autopilot (this is the part that kills tutors)
This is the hero. Paste it once and Claude builds a scheduled task that fires every morning at 8:00 AM with your quiz already written. You do not start the session. It starts you. The order matters. It quizzes you before it teaches, because recalling yesterday's lesson is what locks it in. Anything you miss cycles back after 1 day, then 3, then 7, until you stop missing it. Anything you nail twice graduates out. Then one new micro-lesson and you are done, under 5 minutes. Scheduled tasks need a paid Claude plan. On free? The next section gives you the same loop.
Create a scheduled task that runs every morning at 8:00 AM and acts as my daily [TOPIC] tutor. Keep a running progress log across days: what I've learned, my current level, and the specific items I keep getting wrong.
Each morning, in this order:
1. QUIZ FIRST (active recall): ask me 3 questions BEFORE teaching anything new. One on yesterday's lesson, plus re-surface older items I missed on a spaced schedule (re-test a missed item after 1 day, then 3 days, then 7 days). Wait for my answers and grade them.
2. Update the log: anything I miss goes back into rotation sooner; anything I get right twice in a row graduates out.
3. THEN teach ONE new micro-lesson that advances the curriculum: explanation, one worked example, one I try.
4. Ramp difficulty up as my accuracy climbs; ease off if I'm struggling.
5. End with one line: today's score plus the single thing to focus on tomorrow.
Keep each session under 5 minutes. Set it up now and show me what tomorrow's first message will look like. What's free, what's paid (the honest part)
Part 1 runs on free claude.ai. No card, no app. Part 2 uses Claude's scheduled tasks, and those need a paid plan. No paid plan? You still get the full loop, you are just the alarm clock. Reopen your Part 1 chat each morning and send the line below. The whole history is in that chat, so Claude already knows your level and every miss.
Quiz me first: yesterday's lesson plus anything I have missed before. Grade me, then teach today's new micro-lesson. Keep it under 5 minutes. Why it works
Nothing here is a gimmick. Quiz-before-teach is active recall, and retrieval beats rereading. The 1, 3, 7 day re-tests are spaced repetition. The confidence check catches the most dangerous gaps, the things you are sure about and wrong about. Adaptive difficulty keeps you at the edge of your level instead of bored or drowning. This is the structure good tutors charge for, written into two prompts.
